My Thanksgiving Paradox

by Kathy Gauvin, New Ipswich, NH

I am thankful for waking up every morning to the beauty and peace of my surroundings.  I am not thankful for my immediate Northeast Energy Direct pipeline thoughts!  I am thankful for my wonderful, intelligent husband who has dedicated himself to researching and fighting this horrendous pipeline project.  I am not thankful for the abrupt, stressful change in our lives.

I am thankful to be able to dedicate myself to this battle, to find a strong, powerful voice deep inside me that now is being heard.  I am thankful for my family who will gather together to share Thanksgiving.  I am not thankful that the home where so many memories have been made will no longer be a safe dwelling due to the compressor station’s proximity and all the toxicity that it produces.

I am thankful for the life I have cherished, the downtime of retirement, the joy and peace.  I am not thankful that this has been stripped away by Kinder Morgan/Tennessee Gas.  I am thankful for all those who are standing strong and courageously in pipeline opposition including some of our state and national politicians.  I am not thankful for the many roadblocks that we face in establishing political rapport with others.

I am thankful for the lessons learned from Minisink, NY.  I am thankful for the brilliant environmentalists and renowned health professionals who have shared their knowledge.  I am thankful that there is energy, hope, and dedication that will STOP the NED!
